1st National Health &
Fitness Expo – PISA, PENANG

The Malaysian Liver Foundation (MLF) was invited to participate as an exhibitor at the 1st National Health & Fitness Expo held at the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA), on 14 to 16 December 2007. The Expo was organized by the newly formed Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA) Malaysia Chapter, and jointly organized by State Government, National Population and Family Development (LPPKN) Penang, Penang State Health Department, Senior Citizen Association Penang and Rumah Nur Timur Laut and Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang. The objective of the AMDA was to improve the standard of health in the country as stated by the State Health Committee Chairman and AMDA Patron, Mr P.K. Subbaiyah.


The event was officiated by T.Y.T. Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang Tun Dato’ Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abbas at 10.00 am on Saturday, 15 December 2007. Both Health Minister, Y.B. Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Penang Chief Minister YAB Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon were also present and addressed the gathering.


Over 100 exhibition booths, comprising health, medical, pharmaceutical, SPA, fitness and wellness groups, NGOs and Government agencies participated as exhibitors. MLF and AMDA had jointly conducted Hepatitis B screening (Rapid-test: HbsAg and HbsAB), vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, free counseling, free gifts and dissemination of leaflets on Hepatitis A, B & C to the public. Medical consultants also conducted talks on various health topics during the 3-day event.


The MLF extends heartfelt appreciation to Roche (Pharma) Sdn Bhd for contributing a sum of RM3,000.00 to defray the Foundation’s expenses to take up a booth, as well as for other related costs.
